Summary

From the #1 best-selling author of The Alchemist comes an inspiring story about a young man seeking wisdom from an elder, and the practical lessons imparted along the way。

In The Archer we meet Tetsuya, a man once famous for his prodigious gift with a bow and arrow but who has since retired from public life, and the boy who comes searching for him。 The boy has many questions, and in answering them Tetsuya illustrates the way of the bow and the tenets of a meaningful life。 Paulo Coelho's story suggests that living without a connection between action and soul cannot fulfill, that a life constricted by fear of rejection or failure is not a life worth living。 Instead one must take risks, build courage, and embrace the unexpected journey fate has to offer。

With the wisdom, generosity, simplicity, and grace that have made him an international best seller, Paulo Coelho provides the framework for a rewarding life: hard work, passion, purpose, thoughtfulness, the willingness to fail, and the urge to make a difference。

A breeze to complete。 Love Coelho’s matter-of-fact tone and his subject matter。 However, this felt more like a collection of quickly jotted thoughts on the topic rather than a researched, life-affirming work。 He jumped between literalism and metaphor in a confusing way, and I’m not sure exactly what I was supposed to take away from it。 Has some merit nonetheless。

I think I was expecting something more like the Alchemist but I was disappointed。 The book was closer to a devotional or a book of helpful quotes。

I had zero expectations。 and it was beautiful

I just love everything that there was and wish I could find more people who actually do not read and say waoh I wanna try it or "oh, that's awesome" or "Yea! I should do it" I just love everything that there was and wish I could find more people who actually do not read and say waoh I wanna try it or "oh, that's awesome" or "Yea! I should do it" 。。。more

Very short, very interesting。 Set up as a series of proverbs with the world of archery as the main metaphor。Not my usual type of book, but I have nothing negative to say about the writing。On the other hand I ADORED the illustrations, the typeface et cetera。 Works very well as a physical art piece to place on your coffee table。

It's one of the wonderful book I read。 I like Archery and I have high respect on it's discipline and technique。 For me, this is the kind of sports that is specifically deep in understanding of individuals nature。 It's one of the wonderful book I read。 I like Archery and I have high respect on it's discipline and technique。 For me, this is the kind of sports that is specifically deep in understanding of individuals nature。 。。。more

Per my grading scale, I give it 2/5 stars, because while I didn’t enjoy it, I was able to finish it。 Within 15 minutes。 Seriously。 Each page either had Japanese-inspired pop art or a few sentences that tried to pass itself off as wisdom。

Actual rating: 2。25Good mini self-help/inspirational book that takes you one sitting to finish。 It contains a lot of your usual life lessons masked in the teachings on the art of the bow。 I'd really wished it wasn't marketed as a fiction/novel, since that's the reason I bought it in the first place。 Actual rating: 2。25Good mini self-help/inspirational book that takes you one sitting to finish。 It contains a lot of your usual life lessons masked in the teachings on the art of the bow。 I'd really wished it wasn't marketed as a fiction/novel, since that's the reason I bought it in the first place。 。。。more

Idk what i just read。 Super confusing & ambiguous with all of the metaphors! Require super deep thinking which i’m not particularly fond of when reading books。

I am an absolutely big Paulo Coelho fan, but was disappointed。 I understand the narrative followed a short conversation of one hour being summarized。 I miss his stories, vivid plots and fascinating characters。

I don't know why this book has a 3。67 rating when it is clearly anything but。 The way Coelho has described the sheer art of holding a bow in your hands, perfecting your posture to make sure that not only when you shoot your arrow the launch is powerful but your aim is also precise and sharp, the bystanders watching the arrow shoot through the air, what the significance of the arrow is, how your soul even comes into play when handling a bow and arrow, recognizing and appreciating your allies whil I don't know why this book has a 3。67 rating when it is clearly anything but。 The way Coelho has described the sheer art of holding a bow in your hands, perfecting your posture to make sure that not only when you shoot your arrow the launch is powerful but your aim is also precise and sharp, the bystanders watching the arrow shoot through the air, what the significance of the arrow is, how your soul even comes into play when handling a bow and arrow, recognizing and appreciating your allies while also being cognizant of your opponents, and on top of that, the way Coelho has described the character of Tetsuya is absolutely astounding。 Requesting the stranger and the little boy to not tell anyone that they have met the greatest archer of all time, and even making sure that he disguises his bow and arrow so it resembles an ordinary object when history and even Tetsuya know that it is anything but — I have been left speechless once again by Coelho's writing。 His writing definitely seeks to address the complex questions that we human beings have in life that either a) no one answers because they don't possess the knowledge to do so, or b) they simply don't know how because they still haven't figured it out。 It's an easy read, it applies to all audiences (especially the young adults of this generation), and overall, Coelho's experiences, although highly tragic, definitely do provide brilliant insight on how you can better yourself as an individual。 。。。more

As always with Coelho, a very thought provoking story。 A very short and quick read, but the parallels between the way of the arrow and one's philosophy on life really stick with you and have you contemplating your own throughout the read。 Coelho also has such lyrical dialogue that flows so easily。 "The gesture is the incarnation of the verb; that is, an action is a thought made manifest。" As always with Coelho, a very thought provoking story。 A very short and quick read, but the parallels between the way of the arrow and one's philosophy on life really stick with you and have you contemplating your own throughout the read。 Coelho also has such lyrical dialogue that flows so easily。 "The gesture is the incarnation of the verb; that is, an action is a thought made manifest。" 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Very quick rear and full of messages。 it’s message to me was to treat life as a goal driven endeavor where proper preparation is necessary to attain mastery。 One must remain calm and learn and practice。 There is pressure also but that is part of life。 Make allies and there many nuances to life, but we learn。 There is wisdom in the book。 Enjoy。

Nice little feel-good book! The author presents a framework for a fulfilled life through an archery fable & very obvious symbolisms。 If you want, you can finish the book within an hour since it’s full of bite sized wisdom-ish lines, and some pretty nice visualizations。 However you won’t discover any earth shattering new wisdom or perspective out of it since most pages are full of cliches that you already know if you have ever read any self-help book。 Still pick it up; for you never know which cl Nice little feel-good book! A really cool short book。 I was so bowled over by The Alchemist that I thought it would be fun to pick up a second work by Coelho to see his other writing。 Not necessarily as a commentary on how good this was, and probably because of the shock value of the Alchemist, I wouldn’t say that this was a more powerful experience than the Alchemist。 But it was incredibly good。This is kind of in the family of books like The Five Rings or (as a stretch) the Tao Te Ching, in that it is a sequential format A really cool short book。 I was so bowled over by The Alchemist that I thought it would be fun to pick up a second work by Coelho to see his other writing。 Not necessarily as a commentary on how good this was, and probably because of the shock value of the Alchemist, I wouldn’t say that this was a more powerful experience than the Alchemist。 But it was incredibly good。This is kind of in the family of books like The Five Rings or (as a stretch) the Tao Te Ching, in that it is a sequential format imparting sermon-like life philosophy and strategy, although I’d say this felt much more contemporary。 The brunt of the lessons, beautifully written, was the concept that experience and intellect must be combined to live the best life。 It immediately brings me to some of my favorite Aristotle writing, and the concept of epistêmê and technê (knowledge and craft), or his concept of eudaimonia being something of an emergent property from the combination of soul and experience。 。。。more

This was a artistically-depicted metaphor of all the ways the archer and the bow and arrow symbolize our life。 It ends sweetly and i really enjoyed it。
